Lessons are usually comprised of either 30 or 60-minute telephone sessions with no phone charge for the learner. The course of study is determined through the mutually agreed to guidelines established during the initial discussions between the learner and Tom. Lessons utilize contemporary English (as spoken in the States) and concentrate on conversational usage. Emphasis in Tom’s approach is “top down” as contrasted to the traditional method of “bottom up” method. Tom’s technique begins with the learner becoming understandable and comprehending conversations and moving from there to proper grammar and syntax. Tom feels that the two most important issues in his courses are that the lesson plan contains material of interest to the learner and that a key element during each session should be that the session is “fun.”
