I run a group home for people with developmental disabilities. Everyday, I work with people who have mental retardation, autism, and bi-polar as well as many other types of disabilities. It can be very challenging to deal with the behaviors, often aggressive, that can come from many of these disabilities. Through on the job training and my own research, I have found ways for staff, as well as parents, to cope with these challenges and be successful in helping the person in their care live a more independent, productive life. My ideas on how to create this environment have been used to establish successful behavior protocols as well as long term goals for the individuals in my care.

I have been a Residential Supervisor for a group home that services individuals with developmental disabilities for 2 1/2 years. Prior to that, I worked as a CNA for 2 1/2 years.
