LivePerson does Costa Rica
This year marked the third annual Outstanding Employee Awards (OEA), LivePerson’s peer-nominated recognition program.
Not only were award winners recognized throughout the company as top performers, but they were also sent on an amazing trip as a special “thank you” from LivePerson. Our first year, we traveled to Riviera Maya, Mexico, which was followed the next year by a trip to Barcelona, Spain. And this year, award winners from Australia, Israel, the UK, Atlanta, New York, and North Carolina headed to Costa Rica!
Why Costa Rica?
Costa Rica is ranked #1 out of 140 countries on the “Happy Planet Index.” Plus, its commitment to the environment and sustainable energy is admirable: In 2015, the country produced 99% of its electricity from renewable sources, and the government continues to invest in its goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2021.
The national motto is “pura vida.” Pura vida translates to “pure life” in English, but it means so much more to the locals — or Ticos, as they are also known. The sentiment behind pura vida is similar to “hakuna matata” — no worries, no fuss, be happy. It’s the concept that you should enjoy your life and be thankful for what you have.
The activities and opportunities in Costa Rica are endless — zip-lining, rappelling through waterfalls, whitewater rafting, snorkeling, and so much more. It was the perfect destination for our active LivePerson employees.
Our outstanding employees stayed at a five-star resort secluded in the Costa Rican rain forest, where each person had a private villa complete with their own plunge pool.
Smiles after a long day of travel.
Each villa was accompanied by its own personal plunge pool — secluded by bright-green foliage — at attendees’ disposal morning, noon, and night.
Adventures in Costa Rica
LivePerson’s outstanding employees took part in zip-lining adventures (where speeds can reach up to 60 MPH), rappelled through Costa Rica’s beautiful waterfalls, and completed “monkey drops,” which is a small zip line followed by a free fall of 82 feet (25 meters) into a cool pool of water.

Afternoons were reserved for relaxing at the spa or pool followed by dinner and drinks out on the town.
For our last day, in typical LivePerson fashion, the group focused on culture. The morning was spent at a local school, where students showed the group a traditional dance.
It’s not sweeping — it’s part of the dance!
The group then went through the streets of Costa Rica (via a tractor-pulled wagon) to see how the locals live. They also headed to La Casona, home of the former president of Costa Rica Rafael Yglesias Castro and considered one of the most charming cultural sites in the county.

After being welcomed with homemade rum (all food and beverages are made on-site), the group learned about the property’s different plants and fruits, which locals still use for medicine, and how they’ve milled sugarcane using oxen for the last 150 years.
A group shot at the mill.
Sadly, all good things must come to an end. After five days in paradise, the group went their separate ways to return home. The trip may be over, but our Outstanding Employee Award winners have made lasting, meaningful connections with colleagues across offices and continents and are forever enriched by the memories made in Costa Rica. Pura vida!
Saying “adiós” to paradise.
