Kill the Ballroom: Finding Aspire’s 2013 Home
[EDITORS NOTE: Edited on 2/14/2013 to reflect new event dates] We are excited to announce the dates for Aspire USA 2013: Week of October 7, 2013, New York City. For those who don’t know, Aspire is LivePerson’s live customer event, designed to connect our universe of clients, product experts, tech geniuses, marketing executives, partners and inspirational thought leaders who engage people in obvious, and not so obvious, ways in the world.
We create Aspire in the US, London and Sydney so we can make meaningful connections with our global customer base and forge a real community among the most ambitious innovators in customer engagement. This isn’t your typical conference. Our goal is to have attendees walk away not only with a laundry list of how to maximize the ROI on their customer engagement investment, but to establish REAL relationships with peers that will enrich each person’s journey in the world (and pay long term dividends).

As you might imagine, with such lofty goals a regular ol’ meeting space will not do. You don’t need me or LivePerson to tell you that no one has ever been inspired by being lectured to all day in the confines of a beige, soulless hotel ballroom. That’s just not our style. We look for an environment, not just a space, that will foster the creativity and connection our customers demand, deserve, and expect from a company whose mission it is to create meaningful connections with people.
One of the top requirements for an Aspire venue is that it has space. And lots of it. We need to have a large space that offers the flexibility to add talks to the agenda if a hot topic comes about the day of the event, or if private impromptu meeting rooms are needed, or if one of our speakers decides spontaneously to have everyone break into groups and generate the Next Big Idea, or if we are inclined to bring in 400 djembe drums to have everyone connect by creating music (all of which have happened at previous Aspire events!)
Now, it’s no surprise that the concept of space is a hot commodity here in New York City. Anyone who has ever tried to find an apartment in New York City that can fit both a couch AND a bed might have an inkling of how difficult finding this space is! Throw in Hurricane Sandy, who put several venues under water (literally) and fickle landlords who took other cool spaces out of the rental market at the 11th hour, and the challenge intensifies. Despite these challenges, it seems we may have found our best venue yet. So it was with great excitement that we found the newly launched venue, Skylight at Moynihan Station, which is the home of Aspire USA 2013.

Moynihan Station itself is far from new, it is part of the James Farley Post Office built in 1912, and is at the heart of city planners’ aspirations to rebuild the historic Penn Station. But for now it is being used as a one-of-a-kind event space that gives Aspire attendees an atmosphere that will inspire new ideas and new connections, and a lot of room to do it… about 50,000 square feet! We can barely contain our ideas for transforming it all into the epicenter of customer engagement, LivePerson style.
